      DLM again?

      Hey guys,

you've helped me alot in the past and i wonder if you can help me answer another question. On thursday I ordered a new router, and ever since then the internet has been very slow and seems to have peiroids where it doesnt respond to anything then a few seconds later it will come back.

It connects at all sorts of speeds and the noise margin just goes all over the place all the time one min it will be at 13.0db the next its at 4.3.

Is DLM causing this as even though the router is old (DG834GT had since 2007) it still has been working ok over these last few months, but since this call to sky everything has gotten very unstable...

Are the stats at one point, then a min later...

I cant get any work done as my programs keep saying they've lost connection.

      Any ideas? Thanks.

I think it may be time for a new router.

It may be a fault on the line or REIN interference, but if you have another router, try it and see if it makes a difference.

      Re: DLM again?

Hmm sorry for not replying I subscribed to the thread but didnt get an email

Anyway like I said the router ive got is a dg834gt from 2007 and its pretty old, they have sent a new one so I hope it fixes the problem, I doubt its a line issue as it has been fine for the last 3 months.

      The site says...

Broadband Box Your order has been dispatched and should be delivered within 3-5 working days from: 05/02/2011

To track the status of your delivery visit our delivery partner site.
      Tracking Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXX.
      Delivery Partner: Royal Mail

Any idea if this will be a sagem one or a D-Link???

      Cheers.

Make sure Skyuser is on your safe senders list or emails may be dumped in the Junk folder.

Not sure what you will get as a replacement, some are getting Sagems and some Dlinks. I suppose it depends on what is at the top of the pile when your order is sent out.

      Re: DLM again?

Well the issue seemed to correct itself yesterday and new router came today on the dispatch sheet it says "D-Link Router V1.11" I thought it was the sagem router at first as a friend of mine has a sagem sky router and they look very similar.

Thanks for the help anyway, plus pages seem to load quicker with this router.

      Re: DLM again?

Ok even with the new router its a been a bit unstable.

These were the stats at one point

      ROUTER STATISTICS

      System Up Time: 00:08:55
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 10 4 0 81 46 00:00:05
      LAN 10830 8541 0 17838 2088 00:08:55
      WLAN 467 73 0 258 27 00:08:35
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3104 kbps 416 kbps
      Line Attenuation 60.0db 31.5db
      Noise Margin 0.-3db 20.0db

I gave it a while and its now saying...

      System Up Time: 00:26:16
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 2227 1947 0 292 602 00:16:20
      LAN 30343 24448 0 16438 2138 00:26:16
      WLAN 1119 73 0 338 14 00:16:11
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3040 kbps 416 kbps
      Line Attenuation 60.0db 31.5db
      Noise Margin 5.4db 19.0db

Should the noise margin be that low.

      Re: DLM again?

No, you need to reboot it to get up to the default noise margin. Do this by switching the power off for a couple of minutes then power it on again. This will reduce your speed slightly but will give you better stability.

      Re: DLM again?

Well it seems to be staying stable at 5.9/6.0db now but im still confused that my old netgear could do that speed at around 7.3db, maybe the D-Link isnt as good as I thought it was.
