Slower Speed - Brushoff by Sky

      Hi Folks,

I generally get 1.8mb downstream connection speeds according to my router. I noticed over the last few days that this has dropped to 1024kbps and I called Sky to ask them to look at it.

After the general tests I was told that the system is showing that I am getting just under 2mb, while the router continues to state 1mb. When I queried this, I was told that Sky don't look at the numbers on the router and only look at what is on their system!

Is this true, and if not how can I get support.

      Current stats are:-

      System Up Time: 0:14:20
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 4696 4915 0 0 0 0:13:17
      LAN 15 0 0 0 0 0:14:20
      WLAN 8855 8436 0 236 220 0:13:53
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1024 kbps 625 kbps
Line Attenuation 60.5 db 32.6 db
Noise Margin 7.4 db 10.5 db

      Any help greatly appreciated!

      Chris

You're on a longish line so speed will never be great - also depends if you're on GDMT or ADSL2+

Re: Slower Speed - Brushoff by Sky

I had 1.8mb sustained for the last few years. I think I got moved to adsl2+ a while back which increased the speed and made the line more stable.

Is it true about what Sky's system says vs what the router says?

Sky can see exactly what you're in sync at so it depends who you spoke to. Also depends if they mean the original 'predicted speed' or the actual sync speed

Having said that that's the fastest the line will go in it's current state

Call them up and ask them to try your line on G.DMT as you are not happy with the speed you are getting on ADSL2+. It looks like you could be capped at 1024kbps.

If it's in sync @ 1024 it's not necessarily on ADSL2+ as it's the exact figure...might be though

I think for g.dmt, sync rates both upstream and downsteam are in 32kbps steps, in which case it would be ADSL2+ - I might be wrong though.

I'm just going by the downstream showing configured speed - tbh it's anyone's guess!
