Not Received Router - Have Managed To Login!

After a couple of years away from SkyBB I've now returned, tempted by Anytime+ and my little girl telling me she needs Cartoonito on her computer!

I was activated yesterday but had not received my router. So after a call to support was told it would take 3-5 days to get a new one, great start.

I have been using my old Netgear SkyBB router for the last couple of years on O2 broadband with no problems. I logged into the router and noted my settings were for a static IP address I was using with O2 with no username and password needed. I changed the settings for inputting a new username and password and noticed that my old SkyBB username and password appeared. I went with those settings, changed the VCI setting to 38 and the multiplexing to VC Based applied the settings and the router logged on straight away.

Not sure why that should happen as I would have guessed the new router would have a new username and password.

      Anyway, router stats:

Connection Speed 4092 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.5 db 17.4 db
Noise Margin 16.0 db 17.0 db

I was on 14000-14500kpbs download with O2. DLM having its wicked way I guess.

Nice to be back?.....Not convinced yet

Normally, if you've been on Sky BB before they don't send a new router as you're expected to use your old one

Thanks for your reply. If I had been warned beforehand that the old router would still be required I would have been a bit more on the ball.

Yep, DLM will kick in tonight. Over the next few days your line should stabilise to about what you had previously. The process will normally take up to 10-14 days.

Well done for not throwing your old router out as well. Many have sold them on eBay or skipped them.

Re: Not Received Router - Have Managed To Login!

Looks like you are already on ADSL2+ so I would say your first change will occur tonight/in the early hours of the morning. If your line is OK you will probably jump up to 12-13Mb. Don't expect the same speed with Sky as you had with O2, Sky use higher default noise margins, so that will knock a bit of your speed.

That seems a bit daft - I would have thought most people would either flash standard firmware on to their sky router, or throw it away/ebay it, when they leave Sky.

I bet they still charge the full set-up fee.

The Sky BB target market won't know how to flash it...

I think anyone returning after more than 12 months would be treated as new customers and would receive new equipment.

Re: Not Received Router - Have Managed To Login!

Don't think so, wasn't there a post about someone coming back after a year away and Sky didn't send one as they expected them to use their existing one?
