Upgrading from Connect to Unlimited - Will I notice?

Got a letter from Sky yesterday telling me that over the next few months they are switching me from Connect to Up To 20Mb Unlimited at no extra cost (in fact it's cheaper!)

This sounds like great news to me, but i'm wondering how much of a difference it will actually make. Obviously the unlimited part is quite self explanatory, but will I notice a great difference in my download speeds, and if so do you think it will be significant?

Here are my router stats if that helps at all

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7616 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 32.0 db 19.0 db
      Noise Margin 6.3 db 23.0 d

Chances are your connection speed will be similar but you should see a great improvement with throuput, especially during the Sky Connect peak hours.

Sky LLU is one of the best BB packages in the UK, Sky Connect is about the worst.

As Smithy99 has stated, you d/l speed won't dramatically change. You should expect your u/l speed to improve a significant little. The max that ADSL2+ (i.e. Sky LLU) allows is 1Mb u/l, I'll stick my head up & guess that you'll get between .7 & .8Mb u/l.

If you have a Sky+ or Sky+ HD box, you'll also be able to get Anytime+ enabled on the Unlimited package.

During the changeover, do leave your router on all day & night. This is whilst the DLM takes effect to re-sync your line speeds.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

You appear to have some noise issues on your line. Plug into your Test socket and post the stats from there, How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

If you can sort this out you could expect a d/l of 11-12mbps.

It doesn't change in the master socket, as i have an NTE2000 with no extensions anyway. When we moved in i checked everything i could to make sure it was as good as i could possibly get it. The only problems i could have now are if it's in the external network.

It is possibly a poor connection at the exchange, you will not know until the line is changed. You will be better off than you are now, with no throttling and an unlimited download plus a better upload speed..
