Line's stayed in sync for the last six hours so far. The stats don't particularly look terrible, but then again we can't see what kind of errors you're racking up.

As suggested, fire the router into the test socket (behind the master socket's faceplate), using only a filter and the short grey dsl cable that Sky provided to the router and re-post the stats.

It could be you are getting bad noise spikes which are causing your connection to drop. Downloading and running Routerstats Lite may give a clue to what is happening. Internet Software

Could it be an issue that we routinely switch the router off at the wall when no PCs are in use? Is it one of those things that is better always left plugged in and on?

It should not really matter, but most leave the router running 24/7. Excessive powering on and off can actually damage the router.

OK will leave it on from now on. Is there a marked difference in the results for the mastersocket compared to the normal one?

Router is still plugged into the master socket and just had 2 disconnects within a minute or two. Does this mean the problem is with the router?

re: Sky Broadband drops out several times every day

There is a considerable increase in your upload and a reduction in your attenuation, which suggests your internal wiring is interfering slightly. Can can you confirm that this is from the Test socket and not from the faceplate of the master socket?

re: Sky Broadband drops out several times every day

      It depends.

Do you have any noise or issues to report on the landline?
When you say master socket, are you currently plugged into the test socket? If so, check your extension sockets and whether you can get a dial tone at them with the master socket faceplate unscrewed and the test socket exposed.
What exactly do you have plugged into the socket? Any extension cables running to the router, for instance?

re: Sky Broadband drops out several times every day

Yes I am plugged into the test socket. Face plate has been removed. No dial tone on phone extensions.

The things plugged into the socket are the ASDL cable and the short grey cable from Sky going to the router.
