      Exclamation Stupidly slow broadband speeds!!!

      Hi Guys,

First of all I would just like to say Hi as I am new to this site. Also I am not very techy at all so please explain things as idiot friendly as possible.

About 3 months ago my broadband speeds dropped dramatically, But thought nothing of it and carried on. In the last month they have dropped again, Approximately I am no getting 30 Kbps download speeds and even browsing is painful.

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks

      Two things:

Firstly, have you looked at the threads going on about BB speed being reduced elsewhere on the forum?

      Look here

The link above is to one of them, but there are a couple of others.

Secondly, it the issue affecting those members is not relevant to yourself, could you post some router stats so that those in the know can assist?

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Your noise margin is high, it maybe that your max line speed is capped, phone sky and ask them for an estimate. An internet calculator suggests based on you distance (line attenuation 55db) you should expect close to 3900 kb/s

How long have you had sky and which package are you on?

      There's likely a reason you're capped.

How many telephone sockets do you use?
Is there a microfilter connected directly into each telephone socket in use, ensuring that nothing before the filter?
Is the router connected to the master socket or an extension socket?
Are you using the short grey dsl cable that Sky provided, or running an extension telephone cable to the router?
Do you have Sky tv connected to any telephone sockets?
Do you have a test socket?
