      Full speed?

      Broadband speeds:
      DownStream Connection Speed 2080
      UpStream Connection Speed 448

Hi all, this has been driving me mad for along time now and i really want to get it sorted. My problem is that as you can see I am getting around 2mb down the line but the laptops or ps3's that connect to it via either Ethernet or wireless are only showing 200kbps and it is deathly slow.

Just got off the phone to sky after 45 minutes of them telling me that they couldn't do line checks etc because I am on the Broadband connect package. The guy was sure it wasn't a router fault which I still think there is a chance. But why when I am getting 2mb down the line is my router not giving it to the laptops? surely a set up/router problem? He tried to tell me the web speed checkers are all inacurate and told me to do 3 and compare and they all showed around 200kbps. This is deathly slow. Does anyone know this problem?

      Thanks
      Matthew

There is only one problem and that is that you are on Sky Connect, the worst BB package in the country, some people are not even getting dial up speeds during peak hours.

The is only one cure and that is to get your MAC code and move to a better managed ISP, consider Plusnet, Zen or IdNet.

      Re: Full speed?

      Right ok, thanks.

The funny thing is that last year It had been up to 1.4mbps then all of a sudden it has dropped and for a ps3 it is pretty unusable.

But why would they send 2mb down the line if I wasn't able to use it? the sky man said that I should be getting this but couldn't do line tests.

Could this be a setup problem too? possibly filters in the wrong places/not there?

      Re: Full speed?

Sky connect uses BT Wholesale's hardware, Sky can't control the sync rate.. They pay rental to BTW for the number and capacity of the links between BTW's and Sky's network, these are expensive, so they can't rent enough capacity to give everyone maximum speed, so would use traffic management instead.

As you are on a BTW based connection, you can check you line profile using the BT performance tester:- Test Result . If your IP profile is low, then you may have had a spate of disconnections.

      Re: Full speed?

      Ok the test results are

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1367 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
      Additional Information:
      Your DSL Connection Rate :1856 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1500 Kbps

Now my internet for the first time ever today has been 1.5mbps I guess tonight it will get throttled again back down to 200kbps?
