Thanks, would you suggest I try to get sky to get higher link sync first then when it drops. get them to raise a call with BT?

Re: Surprise increase of Line attenuation over night

Just phoned Sky, the customer support chap said that my max speed would be 4Mb and that theres no they can do and left it at that

Even although I am currently sync'ed at 4991, I never seen it sync than this appears to be some sort of limited somewhere with noise Margin of 18.2db

You are getting a huge spike in your noise margin, what is causing it is anyone's guess. What you can try is downloading and running Routerstats Lite, this will show when the drop is occurring and may help nail down the reason.

      It just dropped at 4:26pm

      4262 kbps 614 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.5 db 21.8 db
      Noise Margin 7.4 db

Thanks for the advise on Routerstats Lite to keep track of the time of the spikes.

Re: Surprise increase of Line attenuation over night

The Noise margin seen to hold for days then change from 18db down to 7db. It would stay at 7db for 4-5 hours then change back to 18db.

Last night I have requested a gaming problem and the nice lady switched me over. pings gone from 50ms to 20ms. While she was on the phone she said that she can do something with the sync and changed the ip profile to 8Mb I think. these are my current stats since the call, I could reboot it later in the quiet period to get more but tbh, its already a 50% increase!

      WAN uptime 13:56:58

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7082 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.5 db 21.7 db
Noise Margin 11.1 db 7.5 db

Sky support is so random, most of the time you get nar-sayers, once in a blue moon you speak to a real gem.

Re: Surprise increase of Line attenuation over night

If she has set it at 8Mb, you should get that now with a reboot. The noise on the lines usually increases from now on, so your margin will not rise much more.

Sounds like you're on the SVBN and now on a gamer profile with the 8192/768 profile applied to the line

Re: Surprise increase of Line attenuation over night

Link just dropped, Again it around 4pm,

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3538 kbps 530 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.5 db 21.7 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 8.5 db

Madness, not sure what and why this extra noise is coming from, wonder if any of my neighbours tumble dryer is sitting on top of my line.
