      rarely broadcast SSID

i have just moved into a flat above where i work and my boss knidly offered to let me use the wi-fi.

the router is located downstairs from me no more than 2 metres away if there wasn't a floor in the way.

my laptop doesn't often pickup the network and when it does it won't let me connect. it states that it is a hidden network and i may be out of range.

any ideas on what the problem is?

There are a whole host of issues that might be causing you problems. It might help if you can rule some of them out.

      For example:

      Which router is it?
      Can you reposition it?
Can you sign in to it downstairs?
Is the floor between you and the router wood, concrete, stone or something else?
Are there any other electrical devices near you or the router? (microwaves & TVs are known problems)
