how can i replace garden BT cable?

The 1950's house i have moved into gives a pretty poor adsl connection of 3mb. The wire from the house to the pavement is exposed on top of the garden and the wire looks in pretty poor condition which i believe is harboring the adsl connection speed. How can i get sky/bt to repair this?

Do you have BT line rental?

If so dial 17070 and option 2 and listen for noise, if you hear noise report a voice fault but do not mention ADSL or broadband.

If there is no noise I am not sure what you can do, but do not cut the cable as it will cost you a arm and a leg to get BT out to fix it.

I guess you could make sure your internal wiring is correct, try router in test socket making sure no other extention is wired in wrongly. Then check your router stats and calculate what speeds you should get and if low report it to Sky to test and hope they get BT out to investigate.

Put your stats in HERE (kitz.co.uk) to see the speeds you should be able to get.

Who do you pay line rental to?

It can be logged to Openreach to be repaired by your CP (Communications Provider), but unless it's service affecting (such as noise/faintness) then you're probably expecting a bill of around 99.88 for the call-out and 64.63 for every hour of work.

A spade needs to go through the cable that should NEVER have been installed like that!
