Sky Unlimited Broadband gone slow in the last few days

After a great 12 months on sky bb i started to have problems on 01/01/2011.

Ive always had 9mb 50ms ping from speedtest.net wich arrives wirelessly at my PS3 as 5-6mb.

The last 3 nights however im getting 2mb 250ms ping on speedtest.net wich is <1mb at the PS3 resulting in not enough speed or too high a ping to even join an online lobby and xbox live wont connect when this happens too.

      Speedtestresult from last night
      http://www.speedtest.net/result/1094536264.png

Just checked my router and it says i have 10+mb d/l, has anyone got any idea what's going on please?

Heres some router stuff incase it helps...

These results are from the test socket as that is how i have always ran my internet connections since my days of pc gamng.

The router is connected to the phone socket upstairs with a filter and is a few feet away from the socket, the router is connected to the pc wich is a foot way, also connected to the router is a sonos zp120 and has been for a month orso causing no problems, another sonos zp90 is downstairs and connects wirelessy, the PS3 is downstairs and connects wirelessly, my 2 daughters each have a blackberry wich connect wirelessly and the Xbox which admitedly is new (so i guess could be the gremlin) is in another bedroom upstairs and connects wirelessly to xbox live gold.

      Here is a ping test

Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138] with 32 bytes of data:

      Reply from 212.58.224.138: bytes=32 time=33ms TTL=121

Here are some speedtest results from today

      skyuser speedtest result

"We have detected that your ISP is speedtestid=0. Your download speed is 8328Kbps. Your upload speed is 607Kbps.
      Please select your speedtestid=0 package:
Sorry! We don't have any more information about your ISP."

      Speedtest.net

Notice the results are pretty similar and that the ping is <50ms and this coupled with nealy 9mb d/land okish upload is what i have had for 12 months with sky regardless of the time of day/night and why ive been happy to stay with sky, its only since 01/01/2011 that it goes crappy at night times wich makes me suspect throttling.

I will post some speedtest results later when it goes crazy again

      Thanks in advance

re: Sky Unlimited Broadband gone slow in the last few days

      Hi

As you know I'm having the same thing with peak time throughput being slow and my ping time increaseing . I have spoken to Sky again this morning who assure me there is no traffic management applied to their unlimited product, however they cant offer an explination for the slow downs. They did advise me to call back when I start having ping problems and peak time slows downs so they could investigate it while it is happening. I suggest you do the same. They have done some line tests and have told me my line is in good shape, at the moment my speeds and ping are normal. You could try posting on the official forum also

      Hi

I have just spoke to sky aswell and they have "optimised" my line resulting in slightly better results as follows:

I am also going to phone back later when it goes ballistic so they can try to find he issue although they just point the finger at peak time usage at the moment, ill let ya know later what they say.

Oh and thanks for the link

re: Sky Unlimited Broadband gone slow in the last few days

Now although they don't traffic manage during peak times, if lots of people in your area connect at those times, bandwidth will decrease. It will become over saturated. Considering we have just gone through christmas when people are off work and all that, this would be bound to happen.

Best thing to do is note when it goes slow and how much it drops before roasting sky.

I can't personally say that this is the problem as I have had no troubles like this so if it's way off the mark, I apologise

The contention ratio on Sky's Voice & Broadband Network (SVBN) is apparently 1:1, but I don't know what it is for those on SMPF. However, there is no traffic management at all on Sky LLU, so I'd suggest giving them a call when your connection is actually playing up for investigation.

Good point. Just checked that and it is, supposedly, 1:1. Explains why my speed doesn't drop if other people are on.

Now I have seen that, I would call up. I don't think they'd blame peak times the way the speed is dropping. DLM would probably be run again

SMPF/DSLAM connections were always about 30:1 IIRC but it's been a LONG time since anyone ever asked as it was never an issue

re: Sky Unlimited Broadband gone slow in the last few days

Thanks for all the input this far chaps, its appreciated even if some of it seems like alphabet soup to me

Ive just got of the phone with sky support who were very understanding, they confirm they dont have a traffic management (only on connect) and they agree it is very odd and seems like a fault but it is beyond them so they have escalated it to "tier 2" and i should hear from them wthin 72 hours.

Here are the results from tests i just did.

      Ping test

re: Sky Unlimited Broadband gone slow in the last few days

I have also noticed that my broadband connection has suffered. I will be ringing Sky in the morning.
I carried out a test and this is the result:-

I am disgusted as I have unlimited and this speed doesn't help

I am not one for all the figures but I know this is slow. Will a phone call help or is this it?
