The problem is the Sky Connect package you are on, it is throttled at peak times and with the kids being home from school and all the new gadgets that people have bought for xmas you are running out of bandwidth.

Nothing you can do except move to a better managed ISP.

Same here, syncing at 17Mb but throughtput is lucky to hit 3mb at peak times and my ping goes through the roof. If I do a speed test in the morning my ping and throughput return to normal. Im on Broadband Unlimited.

If you are on broadband unlimited then it is not the same for you...

Sky LLU is actually one of the best and just about the only UNLIMITED ISP around, no traffic shaping etc.

Chances are you are using wireless to connect to the router, this could very well be the problem and can be easily fixed by using a wire or even changing the channel number to 13.

Re: slow net at peek times as of wednesday

I've been having the same problem all week. My are pings are > 200ms after 7PM (peak time), when they should be ~30ms.

On Wednesday I carried out a traceroute to find out which hop was adding this additional delay, turns out to be a easynet server (a Sky server); fe2-0.ar1.enmid.uk.easynet.net. I phone Sky and explained this to them, for which I got told this is to be expected as I'm 5km away from the exchange... which is the standard CSR response for 'go away'

If anyone else has experience a slow down at peak times can you post a traceroute, it could be possible that we are all are routed through the same server.

I've only been with Sky for a week and I'm not too happy with them to be honest. I've got back to use my own router as the supplied D-Link keeps disconnecting me.

Easen, post your router stats from the current position and the test socket:-

How to get your router statistics

How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

If you were being disconnected using the Sky router chances are you have a fault.

I tried this before the difference between the master socket and test socket were minimal for me. -0.5db to the line attenuation. What did increase my upload speed as being asked to be put on the G.DMT ADSL modularisation mode.

I've switched over to my NetGear router as of last night and I haven't been disconnected yet. I think there is possible fault with the D-Link router... I'm going to keep an eye on it for the time being.

If it does turn out to the D-Link router I'm going to have a hell of time trying to convince the CSR without letting them know I'm using my own router, haha

Post your stats if you want any help, without them it is all guesswork.

Remember many things can affect your latency, not just Sky's network.

Same problem here after 7pm (unlimited LLU user)
      1st hop is adding 300ms - dr2.hobir.isp.sky.com (89.200.128.30)

Outside peak times everything is fine, definatly something wrong here, maybe its no longer as "Unlimited" as we think.
