Now I have left o2's crappy, useless, rapidshare restricting access package and gone for the sky unlimited package with sky talk and line rental for 11 for first 3 months then 21 a month. My question is that the address checker said I would get speeds of between 10mb-20mb but the phone line checker says I would get 3.5mb why the substantial difference? I am about 700metres from the exchange (straight line)

      Re: Sky speed estimator

Your speed is based on your exchange distance(700 metres isn't necessarily in a straight line with regards to cables) and the quality of the cabling will also be considered.

Best thing to do is speak to Sky for their best estimate. Bear in mind ESTIMATE is precisely what it is. End of the day until you are actually connected no one knows for sure what your max attainable linespeed will be. That again depends on distance from exchange, quality of external cabling and quality of internal equipment.

What are your current stats? That will give the best indication of the speed you will get.

Sky get their estimated speeds from BT. When I signed up for Sky Broadband I was told I would get about 6Mbps and when I said my other line was around 11Mbps the guy told me it's the figure BT supplies them with.
