New home, new exchange - what can I expect?

After moving home a few weeks ago, we finally got our broadband service re-provisioned yesterday. At our old place we were quite a distance from the exchange (3km) and only ever managed to get about 6~7Mb downstream and 1Mb up.

Now we're quite a bit closer to the exchange - 0.6km as the crow flies, in a (mostly) rural area - and our router stats are currently as follows:

      Upstream
      Connection Speed 16380 kbps
      Line Attenuation 17.0db
      Noise Margin 7.3db

      Downstream 945 kbps
      Line Attenuation 10.0db
      Noise Margin 16.3db

I'm wondering if this is what my service will top out at or if there's room for improvement? Thanks in advance

Around the same stats as you, and I'm on my 3rd week of sky.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16380 kbps 945 kbps
      Line Attenuation 14.5db 9.0db
      Noise Margin 8.6db 8.7db

Mine...Think it's stuck at that now.

Standard advise, plug your router into your BT Master test socket and resubmit you stats.

Haha, yes - got them the wrong way around in my post.

I'll re-site the modem so I can connect it to the master socket but I'm fairly sure that, with a little tweaking by a CS rep, I should get a touch more out of my connection. I'll update with info when I have it - thanks again

Re: New home, new exchange - what can I expect?

Okay, so I connected via the master socket and that didn't really change the stats at all - double-checked that the ring wire was out (it was) and then put everything back together.

A quick call to Sky Broadband customer services revealed that my line length as cabled is about 1.4km and, after the operator tweaked my profile a touch, I was brought up to the following:

      Downstream
      Connection Speed 19999 kbps
      Line Attenuation 17.0db
      Noise Margin 7.0db

      Upstream
      Connection Speed 1142 kbps
      Line Attenuation 10.0db
      Noise Margin 9.4db

Gotta say I'm a pretty happy bear... now let's see if I'm stable at these rates

You should be fine with those stats.

      Nice one.
