    EXTREMELY slow internet connection.

      Angry EXTREMELY slow internet connection.

      Hi guys. I dont really know where to begin, but the problem is that my internet connection is unbelievably slow. I can just about play xbox live without being disconnected, but i usually lag an awful lot, making it extremely hard to play. As for download speeds, right now, I'm downloading a xbox live indie game; RAID. its only 42mb big, but its been downloading for over 1 hour, and its still at 53%...I tried downloading an album, which was around 150mb onto my laptop, the download was estimated to finish in 3 days. Here are some pictures of my speeds;

      Pinging google; Look at the time it takes to ping google. Some even time out!



      And heres an internet speed test. This was the only one that would load for me, due to my speeds. Also; it had to connect to 3 different servers before it could start the test.



      Additional info;

      My modem is a D-Link DSL-2640S
      My xbox is connected via an ethernet cable, going into the YELLOW ethernet port of the modem.

      Any help would be very much appriciated, Thankyou.

      p.s. By the time i finished writing this, RAID is now at 60% completion.

      Post your stats, from the normal position and from the Test socket, using only the cable supplied by Sky..

      How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

      How long have you been connected? What was your speed with your previous ISP?

      Has this been the case since you started using Sky Broadband (or another supplier) or has this been a recent occurrence?

      well, my old netgear modem (from sky) broke, so they sent me this D-Link one, so, with this new modem, i've been connected for around 3-4 weeks. With the old modem, over 2 years.

      A recent occurrence, My old tv broke, so i got a new one for christmas, at this time, the modem was downstairs. Because i dont have a wireless adapter for the xbox, i moved the modem upstairs so i could connect to live, the modem then had to be connected to a different (socket?). Only then did this all start, But my old modem was upstairs, as is this one now, and the old one was fine, Never had any problems with it, until it broke.

      If the router is in an extension socket, then you're probably going to find this is a big part of the issue. Move the router to the test socket (link below) using just a filter and the short grey dsl cable that Sky provided and re-post your stats.

      Ok, i tried doing that but the laptop wouldn't even connect to the internet. the modem was fine, but the laptop couldn't connect.

      Yes, i tried using the ethernet cable & that didnt work. so i then tried wireless. that didnt work either.

      What were the stats in the Test socket? Try it again, this time slide the filter in and out of the socket a few times to make sure it is connecting properly.
