Whilst you're waiting you might want to check the internal setup your end. Do you have a test socket? If you look at the master, does it have a horizontal split running across the front? If so, unscrew it and plug a filter in and the router with the Sky-supplied cables and power it on.

If it works it would seem the internal wiring has now given up the ghost. If not, you know it's nothing internally so it's either the router or the external line

Flashing amber light means it is trying to authenticate with the ISP. A red light usually means there is no ADSL available on the line. Try switching off the router for about 30 minutes, unplug it from the wall so that the PSU has a chance to cool. It is possible you are seeing the first symptoms of a failing PSU. This is quite common on the Sagems.

Thanks - once hubby gets in (I would have called him at work to get him on the case - but first day at a new job means he can't exactly get onto his ISP playing chasey round the departments as a way to impress... mind you, first day at his last new job he had to call in to come in late cos he drilled through the electric cable so he's got a track record...). It's come back on for now so I can at least Google my way through on the proper PC for a while.

Was so much easier on Virgin - buy yer own router, get it working yerself with none of this using their own approved housebrick malarky!

That's why many buy and use their own router, T & Cs or not.

Hubby rang them this evening - they're sending a new router out to see if that fixes it all.

Re: At the end of my tether already (disconnects, slow speeds)

Interestingly today the speed's shot up to 11meg via the wireless. One of the usual residents on inSSIDer isn't on, so I suspect that the modem's either had its weetabix, or there's something there with the other wifi causing the problems. Have a new router to try as well but since that requires moving a load of stuff to get to the plug I'm holding off to see what happens when the other network starts back up again to be honest.
