      Flashing test light

      Hi.

      I've just got Sky Broadband but it refuses to connect. All i get on my Sagem router is a solid green power light, and a flashing test/tick light.

      At first i thought it was due to Sky not having activated my internet at their end, but once i got through on the phone it turns out its all OK their end, the guy on the phone couldn't help me. So now im stuck paying for broadband that doesn't work!

      Anyone have any ideas what i could do?

      Sounds like a dead router or faulty power supply, do you have an old router from a previous ISP?

      Nope, im afraid not. My old router was fibre optic so it didn't have the ADSL model port on it.

      Then all you can do is get Sky to send you a new one

      Damn! It hasn't worked from the day i got it. At first i thought maybe Sky were delayed in activating me because of the snow or something. Not a great start really!

      You must have got one of the resident idiots. It is their job to help you, if they can't then they should pass you to someone who can. Sky do themselves no favour by employing such people. Phone again and if they still say they can do nothing ask to speak to a manager or be passed to CST where the brighter lights are.

      They're gonna phone me back tonight. I'm fed up of waiting tbh so if the guy tonight isn't helpful then i'll demand a manager.

      Demanding a manager in this situation won't do anything as all you need is a new router...unless you're unlucky to get someone not in BB tech who doesn't know what they're on about

      however ... the reccomendation will bo to do a firmware update on the sagem, so the chances of getting a replacement are outwighed

      Incase it is just a firmware issue:

      Connect the router and computer via ethernet cable. Open command prompt (start > all programs > accessories > command prompt). Type 'ping 192.168.0.1'. If you get 100% loss, then firmware restore/upgrade isn't going to work.

      Advise Sky on this and you should have a new router & PSU sent your way.

      If you actually do have a local connection (0% loss), then trying a firmware restore/upgrade wouldn't hurt. Someone else can chime in on how to do it via the CD utilities folder, because truth be told, I haven't attempted one in a good year odd.
