He said the internet connection light wouldn't come on,
Then he does not know much. The internet light will come on orange/amber when connected to an ADSL line and stay that way if it can't authenticate. Some routers will show a red light if no ADSL is present on the line, I have seen my Netgear do this when the line went down. Call them back and see if you can get someone who will listen.

Calls won't/shouldn't be transferred through to CST unless the case is older than 72 hours. It sucks to wait, but that's currently the procedure.

Regardless, I'd ring through and if you get a competent guy from tier 1, then it'd be rather easy to deduce that it's a faulty router and to send a replacement.

Re: Christmas = No ADSL for me?

I tried again, got through to someone who asked me what a faceplate was!

Looks like I will need to wait for a callback, go through everything once more and perhaps have it sorted by Xmas if it doesn't snow again in Scotland..

5 days so far without broadband, not a great service really..

As a consumer service it can take as long as it takes to fix. There is no SLA on Sky Broadband

Yes I do understand the snow has caused havoc, just thought the smallest piece of customer service would be nice, having Tech Support ask you what a faceplate is doesn't do wonders for your confidence.

I have had the internet now for over 12 years at work & home and never once has it been down this long, even on dial up!

Just got to wait I guess & hope they can resolve the problem.

      Regards

Re: Christmas = No ADSL for me?

Just as an update, I recieved a email after contacting them, asking about what router I had etc, when I replied I recieved another email some days later, they have said They have reconfigured my line and to watch it over the next 72 hours.

My speed still has the 100% drop (17mb to 1mb), but disconnections have lowered, and when disconnecting it is connecting a lot quicker then previously staying disconnected for some time.

However, I feel that the problem is not sorted due to my speed.

Re: Christmas = No ADSL for me?

Update, rang Sky again on Friday night and spoke to someone who actually knew what he was talking about! When I told him about the router not lighting up on a working line he agreed that it maybe the router and will send a new one out!

I mentioned his colleagues suggested "it categorically wouldn't light up on a non Sky line" & "What's a faceplate" two days earlier, he seemed baffled..

Anyway hopefully Router will appear sometime before Xmas if it doesnt snow again.

Re: Christmas = No ADSL for me?

Got mine sorted, turns out mine was a damaged line, once repaired and out of courtesy, the engineer also installed a new socket for me.

such similar problems with completely different resolutions.

I hope your back up and running well before xmas.

Re: Christmas = No ADSL for me?

Good for you TazzFM, glad you got it all sorted at last. Still no router turned up yet for me, said they have no idea when it will be here due to weather conditions. Odd that I have received 2 parcels from Amazon, 2 from Tesco [Scotland] & 3 from Play.com this week with no problems!

      Well done anyway.
