Been advised to seek help - So Help, please!

      Hi all,
I posted for the first time on this forum yesterday and have had 2 replies, neither are encouraging (not the fault of the people that replied, it looks like I have an issue)

I posted these stats from day 1 on Sky BB Unlimited:

Sky Broadband Unlimited ordered on the 8th November, delivered on the 12th November and went live on the 23rd November.
      Sagem router.
Stats from day 1 are as follows:
      System Up Time: 11:20:12
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 289463 540557 0 8048 371915 6:50:30
      LAN 549674 298874 0 377399 12158 11:20:12
      WLAN 17401 4796 0 0 0 11:19:44
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4092 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.5 db 27.0 db
Noise Margin 2.8 db 16.1 db

Sky reckon I can get around 4.0meg so that looks to be where we currently are with testing.
Any thoughts from anyone on what I might get in the end?
Router is plugged into nearest socket to the master socket as I cannot put it there yet, will do so after the testing - hopefully.

      Reply:
As IWNTE says, you have problems, without correction you will be lucky to get 2.5Mb. Post in the Help section including your latest stats and also from your Test socket. Do not reply here as this thread is purely for information and not help.

So here I am looking for some help please!FYI I ran Speedtest.net first late last night and it was reporting 5meg down and .76 up.
I have not looked at my stats yet today as stuck at work, however I must confess that I had a "play" with my master socket/test socket the other day and some of the cables came out when I pulled it forward, now I thought that I had put them back properly but judging by the 2 replies I have maybe something is not quite right. I will post a picture tonight of the cables I have an a bit more info on the layout of phones in the house. I just wanted to start this thread in preperation for later, I hope that is OK.

I appreciate all the help so far and going forward.

The problem is your noise margin is very low, at this stage it should be up in double figures. Plug into your Test socket and post your stats from there.

There are often loose wires left behind the faceplate, as long as terminals 2 and 5 are connected, your extensions should work OK.

Please use the tester on this site to check your speed, speedtest.net is not dependable.

Those stats are a lot better. To confirm, are they from the master socket (i.e. faceplate still screwed on) or the test socket (i.e. faceplate unscrewed and plugged into the test port behind)?

Thanks for the reply - they are from the master socket, ie faceplate screwed on.
Is it worth me trying the test socket or shall I leave it as it is?

Well, the stats aren't exactly bad but you may be able to push out some more. Try the test socket by unscrewing the faceplate and re-post your stats. Make sure all you're using is a filter and the short grey dsl cable Sky provided.

Well, yes! You've gone up nearly a meg. That is about right for the line give or take 500kbps

Thought so, however it is has just taken me 45 minutes to get the cables back into their sockets as 3 pulled out when I removed the front plate of the master socket, not sure if I want to go through that again! Just reconnected and checked the phone lines in the house and they seem to be working again now.
Frightened myself for a bit there!

OK if I was to tackle the test socket again what do you recommend to attached so that my phones all work and the speed remains high?

cheers for your help by the way.

If you can have the router in the master then get a filtered faceplate
