      Browsing speed, WPA2 & Firmware 2.8

      Hi all,

Is it possible that after the new Sagem firmware update (2.8) that changing the routers security over from WPA to WPA2 can reduce browsing speeds? Perhaps due to the extra encryption processing.

Our browsing speeds have definately become slower since upping the routers security, even though our router stats are showing the same UP & Down speeds, and noise margins are the same.

      Regards

The extra encryption can slow down browsing but only by milliseconds, you should not notice it. Can you change back to WPA to see if it makes a difference?

Just trying it now mate, It takes ages (like 8 minutes) to log back into the router after switching between WPA & WPA2, is that normal?

Anyway.. Be back in a few once I've run some tests...

If anything, that possibly sounds like the channel could have been reset back to 'auto' and causing the issues. Make sure the channel is on something else other than auto.

Ahh ok, Thanks user05. It is on Auto and always has been, It normally sets itself to channel 1 though so I think I'll stick it on that manually.

Can't do it yet though.. Still waiting for router screen to show up after switch to WPA2 (12 minutes and counting) Jeeez it's frustrating.

That's really odd. Try connecting up an ethernet cable to log into the RSP and then change the settings with the cable connected.

      Re: Browsing speed, WPA2 & Firmware 2.8

Yes I think the problem regarding the slow router login after swapping over to WPA2 must be a wireless issue (however I've not tried a cable.) I reset the router just incase perhaps there was some dud info in memory, and then set everythng back up again. However It was still very slow to login once I'd set the security over to WPA2 (15 minutes before router home screen appeared.)

Once this initial login had been done after changing over to WPA2, I could login quickly again (around 5 seconds.)

Regarding the slow browsing speed.. I think you were right User05. I changed the channel over to 01 manually and browsing speeds are ok again

      Thanks very much fellas

      regards
