Thumbs down Sky Broadband Rocky Start :/

      Hi all!

I got my Sky Broadband activated on the 17/11 and DLM began on the 18/11 according to my Sky account.

My speed started on the default 4mb cap at the beginning, then rose to 5120, then the following day reverted back to 5024 downstream. It's stayed on this speed since.

      My stats are as follows;

      System Up Time: 122:10:42

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 5289 5967 0 2542 12059 00:07:40
      LAN 26527342 18275469 0 5297 5228 122:10:42
      WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 00:00:00
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5024 kbps 796 kbps
      Line Attenuation 31.5db 17.7db
      Noise Margin 8.3db 13.0db

I live literally a stones throw away from the exchange and every phone socket is working and has a micro filter attached.

I was previously with Virgin media and got 19500 speeds on average, I know that cable is a different story but I am convinced my wiring is fine. Not to mention that with Sky my internet cuts out at least once a day and takes hours to return, it's all a bit of a joke tbh and I'm losing patience with it.

Unlike you, I think your wiring is causing issues. You cannot be a stones throw away from the exchange with that attenuation at lease cable wise anyway.

Get your stats again from the TEST socket, this will remove any internal wiring from your connection and give you the best results you can get:- How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

Should I wait until the DLM has fully completed to test the master socket? Or from the look of my stats have I been capped already? Cheers.

You haven't been capped, but your noise margin indicates you will not get much more, if any. Plug into the Test socket as requested and post your stats from there. If that proves your internal wiring is fine, then you have serious problems with your external line. With a good line you could possibly get 12-13Mb.

It is better you do this before DLM completes.

Re: Sky Broadband Rocky Start :/

I have no test socket in my master socket, I plugged the router into the master phone socket with no other devices in the house hooked into the phone line.

      These are my new stats:

      Router StatisticsSystem Up Time: 00:09:25

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 1634 1767 0 728 2518 00:07:20
      LAN 6900 5456 0 10839 1594 00:09:25
      WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 00:00:00
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5024 kbps 796 kbps
      Line Attenuation 30.5db 17.1db
      Noise Margin 7.6db 14.0db

      Poll Interval: (secs)

      No difference at all.

Do you have fixed extensions in your house? If you don't, then I am afraid you have a rubbish external line and will have some difficulty getting a good speed, unless it is very noisy.

With a bad phoneline that is your best bet. It could take months to get fixed, if ever.

Re: Sky Broadband Rocky Start :/

      I reconnected my router back to the original phone socket in my room and the internet has just come back up with the following stats;

Router Statistics System Up Time: 02:37:29

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 2110 2333 0 490 1960 00:11:55
      LAN 6277 5004 0 552 95 02:37:29
      WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 00:00:00
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5024 kbps 800 kbps
      Line Attenuation 27.5db 19.0db
      Noise Margin 10.6db 14.0db

      Poll Interval: (secs)

How the hell did the line attenuation and noise margin change? aswell as my upload speed?! all I did was reconnect it :/
