      Constant Dropping Connection

I have a Sagem Router and I have had this problem before. It seemed to solve itself, but over the last few days, my connection drops about every 5 minutes and then starts again.

Here are my stats. I am not very techie so can some kind person tell me what to do. If i ring Sky I will be connected to a person who just has a list of questions...yes, i have tried rebooting etc.

Ther sagem is not exactly new..would a new router help and would they give me one free?

      Thanks for any help.

      Re: Constant Dropping Connection

Is it your internet connection that is dropping or your wireless connection? Your internet connection looks very good, in fact you could probably get 20 Mb if Sky tweaked your line.

      Isitme,

It is my interent connection that is constantly dropping. I found the wireless connection to my netbook did not work wirelessly very well, so my laptop, netbook and PC are are ethernet connected.

      Thanks

the light that goes Amber/yellow is the @ light which is the last in the top group of lights.

there is a further group of 4 lights which show which computers are connected.

What do you think of my noise margin?

      Thanks

That is what is confusing. It is much higher than it need be and should mean your connection is very stable, that is why I thought it may be a wireless problem. The only thing I can think of is that your router or the exchange equipment is faulty.

You should call Sky and explain your problem. Be plugged into the master socket or Test socket with a new filter so you do not have to disconnect to do it, as they will usually ask for this to be done. They will test your line and probably find nothing wrong and send out a new router. If you are outside the 12 months warranty they may ask you to pay for it. If they do, tell them you are not happy at having to pay for a router they force you to use, you might get it free.

      Re: Constant Dropping Connection

      thank you isitme,

I was trawling posts on dropped connections with Sky and i read maybe an idea is to unplug UPNP. Do you think that is a reasonable idea/

And is there any number i can ring up Sky without going through the process of the person who answwers the phone going through all the obvious things like rebooting the router etc.

I really do need someone who can talk about the microfilter connection and maybe get me a new router? If you ring the 0844 numver they suggest you can spend hours!!!

      I do appreciate your assistance.

      Re: Constant Dropping Connection

Disabling UPnP was recommended for the original V1 routers, but the problem was fixed by a firmware update. I don't think it the V2 routers have ever been effected by UPnP, but you can try disabling it. It will make little difference unless you are using it to connect to a console, like a PS or Xbox.

There is no way you can get past Tier1 without jumping through their hoops. They have a script to follow and if they by-pass it they can be disciplined. How long it takes depends on how busy they are, if you can manage it call late at night, around 10 pm, things are not so busy then and you can often get through quite quickly.
