      Sky traffic shaping?

Hello. My problems with Sky Broadband started (AGAIN ) two days ago. First, it was just a case of the internet disappearing and then just waiting about 3-5 minutes for it to return. This afternoon, that didn't work. About 3 hours later, it returns. But boy, its slow! Up to this point, all of this was happening network wide- on my laptop with Fedora 14, on my PC with Windows 7 and on my HTC Hero with Android 2.1. But OK, I didn't mind. Later I wanted to play Team Fortress 2 over Steam, but it warned me about Steam Cloud not working. OK, I gave up. An hour later, I tried to play Portal over Steam, and the same thing happened. All of this is happening on Windows 7 Home Premium. And then I remembered! Debian on my PC failed to connect to it's GB repo servers! Is this in anyway connected? Why is my internet connection disappearing? Is Sky blocking ports?

      Re: Sky traffic shaping?

I'm going to make a vid on youtube at some point warning people to stay away from this company. Traffic Shaping is f*cking annoying! You can't even upload and browse at the same time! You can with BT!

Btw what if it's not illegal material you're uploading?

Hi the difference is you are on connect and as you know the connect T&Cs say that the connect package is Traffic Shaped from 4pm till 11pm. Have you had a look at your exchange to see when it is being Unbundled.

      Re: Sky traffic shaping?

Whether you're using wifi or Ethernet, and what speed you're currently connected at. As said, IF you're on Connect then you'll need to get out asap...if you're on LLU then there's something else going on

Dude they Traffic Shape 24/7. I simply cannot upload and browse at the same time at ANY time. Did Sky sign up to that government thing setup to deal with piracy or something? I know there was a thing setup to deal with piracy and that it involved Traffic Shaping and that BT were one of the companies that hated the idea

      Re: Sky traffic shaping?

My parents are on Connect and off peak have no issues. Your exchange might be exceptionally congested but not everyone has poor speeds 24/7...anyway, the OP might not even be ON Connect for all we know
