Funnily Enough - Low Internet Speed But Dont Want To Leave Sky

Had a look around the forum and theres too much info to digest here lol

Dont think its a Sky issue but hopefully someone can tell me. My exchange can handle ADSL Max which I think is up to 8mb. I have Connect (which everyone seems to love lol) and theoretically then I was hoping I could get 8mb.

Now just ran a BT Speedtest and got the following, which I was surprised at coz its practically peak time but anyway.

IP Profile is set to 1.5mb
      Download speed 1.3mb
DSL Conn Rate 1.38mb down and 448kpbs up

I am assuming the IP Profile is the max the line can take. So in that instance shouldnt it be 8mb as that is what is available at the exchange? I am in a new development as well so the equipment shouldnt be shoddy or old

So basically just looking to find out who I need to speak to to get the decent speeds or even just find out if the line is needing upgrading then when will it happen? Just really confused by it all. Had 5mb download speed 2 years ago at previous address less than 7 miles away.

      Cheers in advance for help

No one loves Connect. I'd advise you leave as soon as possible, it's a horrible resold BT ADSL Max product that's heavily traffic shaped (expect 50% packet loss making gaming/streaming/voip nigh impossible) and your speed is capped during peak times (I get 20kB/s if I'm lucky)

Wont it be the same problem with another supplier anyway? Like I said, I was getting the slower speed before I switched to Sky. Just need to know if its worth talking to Sky or BT about the line as the BT SpeedTest says the profile is set to 1.5mb whereas should it not be set to as high as the exchange can handle? Or am I reading it wrong?

The line profile is how fast your line can handle. It goes up/down depending on how long you stay synced at a higher/lower speed. Without posting up a full set of router stats noone here can tell you if your speed is right or not.

Re: Funnily Enough - Low Internet Speed But Dont Want To Leave Sky

Been on Connect since April 2010. Thought it was weird at the time that I couldnt get Base or Everyday though I could get Connect which turned out to be the same price as Everyday anyway.

To simon - who tells me what my line can handle, ISP or BT?

Hi you could try ringing Sky and ask why you were not put on one of Sky`s LLU packages. To see what Sky have to say. Also Simon is on about http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/view-routerstats.html and if you can http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/view-master.html
