      Lost connection to Internet

      Can anyone help?

Since the heavy rain and wind I am suffering irratic internet connection.

When ever I lose connection my noise margin is shown between 1db or -1db. Although my download speed still remains constantat 5.4Mg and anttenuation 44db.

When i phoned Sky call centre last night they said I had to call Macafee as this was a software issue caused by my firewall.

Am I correct in thinking that noise margin is an indication of the quality of my phone line? possibly deteriorating in the bad weather?

My set up at home is very simple. I have an ADSL face plate on my master socket on other extensions connected. In the face plate asre my D-Link (black sky router) and a stadard wired phone.

Also I call sky about this 2 months ago when it happened before and they send me a new modem.

I am convinced my phone line from the cabinet to house is at fault. Last bit of info. My phone line is above ground from the cabinet to house on poles.

In essence does this sound like a software fualt on my PC or a line fault? How do I get someone at Sky deal with this problem?

Sorry for the rambling but I have been trying to solve this issue for months.

Call them back, plug the router into your test socket via a new filter and tell them to check your noise margin as it's not a firewall issue if your noise margin is dropping.
Post a set of stats now, and then a new set from your test socket.

      Re: Lost connection to Internet

Plug in to the test socket at 15:00 today and my router stats are:-

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5408 kbps 768 kbps
      Line Attenuation 44.0db 26.0db
      Noise Margin 11.5db 15.0db

The weather has calmed down now. No wind or rain.

This is so much better than yesterday when I had:-

      ADSL Link Downstream
      Connection Speed 5408 kbps
      Line Attenuation 44.0db
      Noise Margin -0.5db

I think it's the weather effecting my line.
