Non Sky e-mail address and MS Outlook

      Hi,

My local volunteer organisation have set up their own e-mail account with 123-reg, and each member has his/her own address. I am trying to use MS Outlook to send/receive mails from 123-reg's server.

However, I continually get Outlook's test message error: "verify e-mail address". The e-mail address is correct as a colleague has used all my details on his PC and can send/receive mails as if he were me.

The incoming mail server is pop.123-reg.co.uk
The outgoing mail server is smtp.123-reg.co.uk
      Ports are: POP 3 = 110 SMTP = 25

As all my settings work OK on my collegue's PC, I'm wondering if it's my ISP that's causing the problem. I don't have a Sky e-mail account. My personal e-mails come via Yahoo, and have had no problems since moving to Sky BB last year.

I have read various threads regarding 123-reg or folk with problems trying to send/receive e-mails to/from their own domainnames, but they all seem to relate to needing Sky Mail.

Do I need to make setting changes to anything that 123-reg, or do I really need Sky Mail and route all my mail accounts through it; which seems a heck of a workaround!

      Thanks for any help.

You should be able to do it no problem. Have you tried the 123-reg help pages?

How do I setup MS Outlook 2007 with POP3?

Re: Non Sky e-mail address and MS Outlook

So it isn't anything to do with Sky being my ISP?

I have tried following the 123-reg help pages, and even had my collegue write down step by step what he did to impersonate my email address. Still no joy.

I was almost hoping that it was a SkyBB issue!!

Re: Non Sky e-mail address and MS Outlook

You need to login to your sky primary e mail to start with so that you can change your mail settings to allow mail to go through the servers, and then to outlook. If you look on Sky.com in the help centre, follow the steps to set up mail fetcher, it will allow you to get mail from a non sky address.

If you are unable to find what you are looking for, call Sky BB tech. Someone can take you through it.

      In,

"Outlook" have you got the following ticked:-

"my outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"

You will find the above in "More Settings" and then "click-on" "outgoing server".

Sanity - I fail to see how that would help him as he isnt trying to use the Sky mail!
I'm thinking you've missed the authentication that RJM has pointed out!

Re: Non Sky e-mail address and MS Outlook

      Thanks for everybody's input.

FYI this is what I'm doing :--

      In Outlook:
      Click Tools/E-mail accounts/Add a new email account/next/POP3
      User info:
      Your name: removed for security
      email address: removed for security
Logon information: Username: removed for security
      password:removed for security

      Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.123-reg.co.uk
      Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.123-reg.co.uk

More settings: General Mail account: Frontline
      Organisation: Frontline
      Reply email: removed for security

      Ougoing server: tick top box (- - - - - - requires authentication)
      Advanced: Servers POP3 110
      SMTP 25

It all seems correct including the requirement for authorisation. It's the same as all the other "How to" guides, that 's why I'm thinking that it is Sky BB that is causing the problem. I'm going to try Isitme's Sky SMTP Account suggestion. I'll let you know!

      Thanks again to everyone

Re: Non Sky e-mail address and MS Outlook

What version of Outlook are you using?

Can you receive but not send, or are you unable to do either?

You could try using the skyuser SMTP server to send, but from what you have said then 123-reg are suppying one already.

Re: Non Sky e-mail address and MS Outlook

      You,

Haven't got the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" ticked at the main screen?

Also, try changing "Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.123-reg.co.uk" to
      "Incoming mail server (POP3): pop3.123-reg.co.uk"
