      Re: Slow 0.3mb Internet?

Called Sky, apparently when we signed up for Sky in 2007 we were almost turned down because we live too far from the exchange, we'd be getting 0.8mb. However, even the engineer said 0.3mb is very slow, and he wants us to try a different filter. To be honest, I think I'll be stuck with this pre historic connection speed.

Call them up and ask for your speed to be increased. If they refuse insist that you are put through to CST as the person you are speaking to does not know what they are talking about. I am normally against being forceful when you speak to Sky help, but sometimes there is no other way. If they hang up on you call back and this time tell them you want to be put through to the Complaints section as you are not satisfied with the service you are receiving.

So I'm not too far away from the exchange? And I've definetely got a case for doing making a call like that?

Your are not exactly close, but you are close enough to get a speed of 3-4 or even 5 Mbs.

I'll give it a try tomorrow, could it be an internal wiring problem? If so, I don't think there's much I can do about it.

Try it in the Test socket, or if you don't have one the Master socket with everything plugged into the phone removed, except the router. You may have even more in hand than is apparent. You are better phoning at night, less chance of being bogged down with an overseas script reader.

I will try it again, but in my experience there is very little Sky does over the phone. A different filter has actually made it worse,

      Re: Slow 0.3mb Internet?

It depends who you get through to on the phone. You've just gotten through to someone who is script-happy, as one of the first things 'the script' suggests is to change filters.

To make sure you haven't been capped by DLM for a reason, if you can reply with the following:

How many telephone sockets do you use?
Is the router plugged into the master or an extension socket?
Are you running an extension cable to the router?
Do you have Sky tv plugged into any telephone socket?
Does every socket in use have a microfilter connected? If so, ensure the filter is the first thing plugged into the socket, with nothing before the filter. This includes any telephone sockets that Sky tv may be plugged into.
