Ok, you're on WLR (Wholesale Line Rental) i.e. non-svbn. Perhaps the best thing to do is to await the engineer visit and check if all is well after. If not, then call Sky and they'll log a line quality phone fault to get investigated. Could always be worth while mentioning to the engineer the noise on the line if he has to visit your premises.

      Re: Very slow speeds

      Engineer has been (yesterday)
Sorted out the noise on the line.
Did quiet line test twice, first time with only his test rig, dead quiet.
Then with the router in as well, noisy as hell.
2nd line support phoned at 20.30 as they said they would, new router in the post.

Make sure you change all the equipment - dsl cable, filter and router.

      Will do.

How does this look now ?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2048 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 49.0 db 30.5 db
Noise Margin 20.1 db 14.0 db

2nd line said that they were going to up my speed to 5mb.

      Re: Very slow speeds

That is a big improvement. I would think 6-7 should be possible with that noise margin. You are still on ADSL1, moving to ADSL2+ could help or hinder your speed so let's hope they leave you on the mode which best suits your line. I doubt if going on ADSL2+ would be any advantage, but Sky always seem to use it, whether its best or not.

Agreed. I'm not sure why a lot of Sky support are so keen to set line codes to adsl2plus - any CST training I had always suggested for under 8mbps use g.dmt and obviously adsl2plus for 8+mbps. Of course, there is the odd time where adsl2plus performs better on longer lines, but they are few and far between.

      Re: Very slow speeds

      I am now on
Connection Speed 5120 kbps 800 kbps
Line Attenuation 49.0 db 30.5 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 14.0 db

Is that still ADSL 1 ?

Also I am not sure if DLM has been used or not, I would assume not, as I had problems from day 1.

Is it worth ringing as asking them to do it ?
