      what speeds should i be getting

      hi everyone
      1st post so bear with me,i want to know if im getting the speeds i should be,im paying sky my line rental and ive got sky broadband UNLIMITED
      MY ROUTER STATS ARE AS FOLLOWS Netgear V1 DG834GT

      CONNECTION SPEED DOWNST-3064kbps UPSTR-796kbps
      LINE ATT- DOWNST-56.5dbs UPSTR-34.5dbs
      NOISE MARGIN- DOWNST- 7.2dbs UPSTR-8.8db

      EXCH INFO-FIXED-ADSL-1MB DSL MAX ENABLED-2MB
      1.7 MILES AWAY FROM EXCHANGE
      TRIED MASTER SOCKET AND NO DIFFERENCE IN SETTINGS
      DO THESE LOOK OK OR SHOULD I BE GETTING FASTER SPEEDS

      I know you said there was no difference, but please post your stats from the Test socket. Can you also refrain from using caps where they are not required, as it makes reading the post difficult.

      With your present stats you are getting as much as you can.

      many thanks for you reply ive now retested the engineers socket and the readings are as follows
      connection speed downstr-3067kbps upstr-796kbps
      line att downstr-56.5db upstr-34.5db
      noise margin downstr-7.1db upstr-8.8db

      Your being seriously under cut if your on the max package. Don't settle for no less then 16Meg

      3mb is about average for a 56db line attenuation if those stats are
      from the Test socket thats about all the OP is ever going to get, in reality
      your line is more like 4km long.

      It seems you don't know how this technology works, you cannot just pick a speed you would like to get, it depends on the line quality and distance from the exchange.

      The OP will never get anywhere near 16mb with thouse stats.

      I know I'm not stupid hey maybe you should tell this to sky since thats exactly what they did

      Ask him what his estimated speed was when he signed up ? Go figure

      In English, perhaps? Please, read a book, preferably one on ADSL for context and then try contributing with something that isn't utter nonsense.
