      Smile New User

      Hi

I'm a new user to Sky Broadband, just recently got my Mum to change from Virgin as Virgin was quite expensive. So now we will be all Sky, Hoo-Ray!!!

I'm not sure what Modem we're getting yet, just hope it's not a D-Link one as I know people who have had bad experiences with them.

      I hope it's a Sagem or a Netgear one?

Out of the three is there a better one?

Also as I've never used a ADSL conection before is there anything I need to do to make sure I'm getting the maximum speed, or is that down to Sky?

Sorry for making a new thread but i didn't know where to start looking for advice.

      Re: New User

I am fairly sure Netgears and Sagems are just being sent out as refurbished replacements. New users receive the Dlink. Some say it is better, others worse. I think it depends a lot on your individual line. The wireless performance is said to be better.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Our line doesn't like D-Link Router's. We have Talk-Talk internet as well. It was forever dropping out in the end we brought another router.

Hope you have 2 telephone lines then as you can only have one adsl signal per telephone number.

Yes we have. They installed a new line last Tuesday. It was a bit of a pain, as when we ordered it the guy said they could take over the Virgin phone line, so we paid 39 rather than 125 for a whole new line.

However some confusion as they installed a new line for us.

      Re: New User

They would not be able to take over a cable line, its just not possible. They may be able to use the internal wiring, but that's about all.

Think they guy who dealt with us over the phone obviously didn't know all the ins and outs. Or he was trying to save us money. Anyway line is sorted now waiting for broadband now.
