      Speed of Connection seems abysmal

Been using Sky for a couple of years now - and the connection speed seems to have gotten worse over that period. Pages take an age to load, online video quality is rubbish at best, iTunes downloads are basically non-existent speed wise. Most of the time I use my iPhone to get any form of decent service via their Tethering

Read a couple of threads, and have gone into our router settings to pull up the Stats - which are below:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 384 kbps 414 kbps
Line Attenuation 62.5 db 38.4 db
Noise Margin 11.2 db 16.1 db

We are 2 miles from our nearest exchange

Can anyone with a technical eye be able to help us with a solution or tips to get the speed up?

With the attenuation, your line is likely routed a bit further than 2 miles from the exchange. The line is currently capped at 384/416, and being on a long line you're never going to push out a 'great' speed. However, the line should be able to handle more - fire up your stats from the test socket, using only a filter with the short grey dsl cable Sky supplied to the router. No extension cables, phone, tv or any other equipment.

Re: Speed of Connection seems abysmal

      hi WCR,

although i am not on sky (i have virgin national (virgin adsl)) my line attenuation is 61.5 and my current stats are:

Connection Speed 2726 kbps 811 kbps
Line Attenuation 61.5 db 34.5 db
Noise Margin 9.3 db 6.1 db

so, your down speed should be similar to mine if a little bit lower when you try from the test socket
