      Exclamation Tracert issue

      Hello all.
Sorry for the long winded first post but I'll try to get my problem and attempts to resolve it across in one go.

For the past few months I've had some stability issues, nothing major up until these past few days. Although I'm not disconnecting completely, I get some large laggy periods during an online game I play, not unusual I know but a friend of mine that lives a few doors down from me plays the same game, at the same time and does not get any lag at all. Not only that, if I download a large file from filehippo or cnet, I see huge fluctuations in download speeds.

I have the complete Sky package (TV, phone and BB)

I've phoned sky and I've spoken to some very helpful people on the CST, they tried raising the noise margin to 10 on the router settings but I saw no improvement, one Scottish gentleman actually phoned me back 3 days in a row but we never sorted the problem and he said he was stumped lol.
I asked for my line to be tested which they did while I was on the phone to them, they said there wasn't any problems there, they said my line was "very good" as I'm only 600 metres from the exchange.

I did some ping tests using the cmd or command prompt, to some well known sites like bbc.co.uk, google and sky.com, which all came back pretty good, around 30-40ms every time, it wasn't until I tried tracert when I saw something strange. I don't know what this means exactly, whether its a problem my end or the line etc.

I had no other programmes or any other devices connected to the router and out of 6 tests, 2 came as this:-

      C:\Users\mark>tracert BBC - Homepage

Tracing route to BBC - Homepage [212.58.244.68]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

      1 1 ms <1 ms 1 ms myrouter.home [192.168.0.1]
      2 26 ms 26 ms 26 ms dr4.hobir.isp.sky.com [89.200.128.41]
      3 27 ms 26 ms 26 ms vl194.ar8.hobir.isp.sky.com [89.200.132.122]
      4 232 ms 213 ms 211 ms 212.58.238.189
      5 32 ms 32 ms 32 ms 212.58.238.153
      6 33 ms 32 ms 32 ms 212.58.239.62
      7 33 ms 32 ms 32 ms 212.58.251.44
      8 33 ms 32 ms 32 ms bbc-vip113.telhc.bbc.co.uk [212.58.244.68]

      Trace complete.

I've tried it using different sites and had a few strange read outs always on the 4th hop.

Here is a normal reading just for comparison:-

      C:\Users\mark>tracert BBC - Homepage

Tracing route to BBC - Homepage [212.58.246.92]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

      1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms myrouter.home [192.168.0.1]
      2 26 ms 26 ms 26 ms dr4.hobir.isp.sky.com [89.200.128.41]
      3 27 ms 26 ms 26 ms vl194.ar8.hobir.isp.sky.com [89.200.132.122]
      4 32 ms 32 ms 34 ms 212.58.238.189
      5 32 ms 32 ms 32 ms 212.58.238.129
      6 33 ms 34 ms 34 ms te12-1.hsw0.cwwtf.bbc.co.uk [212.58.239.222]
      7 34 ms 34 ms 34 ms 212.58.255.12
      8 33 ms 34 ms 34 ms bbc-vip013.cwwtf.bbc.co.uk [212.58.246.92]

      Trace complete.

Can someone tell me what the problem could be please and what to do about it?

Thank you very much for reading, any help will be greatly appreciated

      Mark O

It's the hop out of the Easynet/Sky network into the WWW, depending on server load it can be high...
