      speed decreasing for no reason

      Hi,

I've been with Sky for a few months now.

My connection has been stable at 11 mbps download speed (on a Sky Unlimited package). This weekend, my modem disconnected for a few minutes. Once it came back on, the router stats showed a download speed of around 9mpbs.

It's been stable again for two days, and now - same thing. Modem disconnected, came back up and I was at 8 mpbs download speeds.

Any idea what may be causing it? I've done absolutely nothing, have not plugged anything in. The only things plugged in the socket are the microfilter and the modem.

These are the stats at the moment:

      System Up Time: 76:29:26
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 8584 10885 0 0 0 0:19:05
      LAN 14449142 12311150 0 0 0 76:29:26
      WLAN 253906 114039 0 0 0 76:29:01
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8710 kbps 1102 kbps
Line Attenuation 22.0 db 10.9 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 8.5 db

      Any ideas? Thank you.

Could be a faulty filter, try swapping all the filters out with a new one. In addition take a set of stats from your test socket and post those up as you should've been getting more than 11mb for your attenuation anyway.

Looking back over your last post first day activated you have had problems right from the start. Try changing the filter or take the modem cable from your Sky box and plug one end directly into the phone socket and the other into the router. This will rule out, or confirm a filter problem.

It is possible the problem which prevented you getting your maximum speed is getting worse and further reducing your speed. Can you plug a corded phone into the line and check if there is any noise on the voice line?

Re: speed decreasing for no reason

sorry to barge in but I've experienced, as ive said before, the same problem. today i looked and my speed dropped to just under 11000KBPS. it was 11591, i keep noticing it just drops and drops every couple of weeks now.

filters have changed, makes no difference. swapped the old router with a new black one - no difference.

If you didnt actually go out and buy a new filter then theres every probability that the issue is with the filters. Usually if one filter in the sky router box is faulty they both are.
