      BT Engineer visit

      Hello,

I have had an ongoing broadband issue for the past few months.

To try and resolve the problem, Sky have organised for a BT engineer to come and check the line. Whilst on the phone, the technician mentioned that my line had to meet certain criteria, otherwise I would be charged 150 for the visit.

My set up is currently a filtered faceplate on the master socket. From here, I have an ADSL extension cable to my router.

Would this set up incur the 150 charge? If so, how do I need to set up my router in preparation for the engineer?

      Thanks for any advice.

If you still have the issue when in the test socket then any visit should not be chargable.

      Thanks runit.

The problem I have is that after rebooting my router, the sync speed drops over a few days. This happens however I am connected, including to the master socket.

If the engineer determines the fault is nothing to do with a fault on BT's line will I be charged?

Should I remove the filtered faceplate and reinstall the original faceplate (single phone connector type). Also, do I have to be connected using the equipment provided with the sky router, or will my own filters and adsl cables be ok?

Yes, you should remove the faceplate & connect to the test socket behind, use the cable that was supplied with the router via a plug adsl filter.
