      Re: Speed has reduced

I have now removed the bell wire from all known sockets in the house.

Going to get on to sky again this evening and see if they can have another look at it.

Going to look into a filtered face plate as well but if my understanding is correct, all this should do is isolate wires 2 & 5 and should effectively be the same as removing the bell wire from all the sockets.

Since my last post I have seen various speeds between 2Mbit and 138K.

No, fitting a filtered faceplate isolates all your other phone wiring which can act as an aerial picking up interference increasing the noise on your line. This is different from the benefit of removing the ring wire, which causes power imbalance in the 'live' pair, as well as acting as an aerial. Your speed is still about 3Mb below the norm for your attenuation.

If you can do it, removing all but the incoming pair from your Master socket and taking the stats will show you what you can achieve. .If you try this, make a careful note of which wire goes where, so you can return them to their original position. It will give you an idea if fitting an NTE5 with a filtered faceplate is worth the trouble and expense.
