      SNR on the fritz

      Pretty much as the title says. Over the past few days my internet has been going haywire. From a respectable 16Mbps to a measly 4Mbps.

      I've been on the ultimate package for a little over a year now and never had a single problem until now and I don't know what the source of the problem could be, I thought I would just take a look at the router stats page and my noise margin keeps dropping from 8 to 0 which eventually causes me to disconnect and then re sync with the following stats

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 3998 kbps 384 kbps
      Line Attenuation 44.5 db 43.3 db
      Noise Margin 5.1 db 12.5 db

      My Previous stats were around 16000 kbps downstream, 33 db line attenuation and a noise margin of around 8.

      If it helps I'm on the Pelsall Exchange just in case anybody knows if sky are doing something on the lines.

      Other things;
      • Currently Connected to the master socket
      • Using the Netgear DG834GT Router

      It could be work going on at the exchange, but if its not, there is a very bad fault somewhere. Your previous stats show an attenuation of 30dbs, even allowing a few more for the upgrade to ADSL+, your present attenuation of 44.5 shows something is seriously wrong. Have you called Sky to find out if there are exchange problems.

      Connect the router to the test socket (link below) and re-take the stats. If they're just as bad, then it's likely the router is at fault.
