      better speed when using phone?

      Afternoon all,

Just got a bit of a odd query that im sure someone will be able to help with!

If i reboot my router while on the phone i get the following test results.

and after i finish on the phone the router will reboot and the speed will be:

I have only noticed this after being on the phone to sky and them carrying out some 'tests' and improving my speed. I was over the moon when they sped it up to what it could handle, but straight after the phone call the router rebooted and reset to the second speed test as above.

Any ideas what causes that? Must be a fault somewhere!

      Thanks, Ben

Can you confirm this still happens in the test socket with preferably a swapped filter and no extension cables being used to the router?

Is there any noise on the landline at all?

Hi, yes this still happens in the test socket. and there are no extersions being used!

The is some slight noise on the line, i have tried the silent line test and its not complete silence, slight buzzing on the line. Does this point to a line fault?

      Thanks

Re: better speed when using phone?

You have the symptoms of a high resistance fault on your line. This basically means when you use the phone the extra power generated in the line helps the broadband 'jump the gap'. First call should be to your phone rental provider and report noise on your line. Make sure you get this noise in the Test socket with only a corded phone plugged in and tell them that when you report the fault as you will be given the "you will be charged if it is a fault on your internal wiring" frighteners. Don't mention broadband at this stage.

Re: better speed when using phone?

I second the above. If you're getting noise on the line with just a handset direct into the test socket, then that's a priority first and foremost. Report it to your line provider:

      Sky talk: 08442410515
      BT faults: 0800 800151
