      Angry VERY POOR Wifi!

      Afternoon all

Im back with another problem with my sky BB! The wifi signal is pathetic!

I have spoken to sky last night and changed the channel to 6 which has helped but not by much! I have done some searching but i cant seam to find out many answers for the D-LINK router.

Has anyone got any ideas!? I live in a one bed flat and my PS3 can only get a 7-15% signal and my iPhone struggles at all, and this is all with in 10M!

Any help would be much appreciated!

      Thanks

      Ben

      Re: VERY POOR Wifi!

Sounds like you've got a bt homehub on channel 6 in range, those things have stupidly overpowerful wifi transmitters and it just swamps others using the same channel. Try changing the channel to 13.

      Re: VERY POOR Wifi!

Your right there is! But i don't get any difference if i change the channel, either is the same or just gets worse!

If i get a better router and piggyback it via an Ethernet cable and just use the wifi capabilities do you think that will work?!

Or is there something else i can do??

      Thanks for your reply!

Try running netstumbler to see what routers are out there on what channels, you should then be able to identify a channel that will be best for you.

I found exactly the same thing so i put my own router in alongside it (DLink DIR825 Quad Band N) and turned the wireless off on the Sky router.

You would be much better running a wire to the games console, even with a good wireless signal it is still not as good as a wire for gaming.

Alongside seconding this if you wish to use a second router piggybacked the usual procedure is:
Disable Wireless On the Sky Router
Change the DHCP Scope of the sky router to 192.168.0.3 to 192.168.0.254
Disable DHCP on your second router
Change the IP of the second router to 192.168.0.2
Connect an ethernet cable from a port on the sky router to a port on the second one.

      Re: VERY POOR Wifi!

Well after a surprise phone call fromSky BB to see if my problem had been sorted I have a new router on the way from them! I bloody hope it's a better one!! One thing I did notice seconds before the chap rang, they upped my speed on about 3000 (I'm still running DLM so hope to pick up a bit!) and rebooted the router, and seconds after the phone call had ended they set it back to about 1800! Why can't they just leave it at a better speed for me!?
