      New on Sky Unlimited.....

Was with AAISP - quality ISP, but pricey and with restrictions for certain times of the day. Was getting around a 10MB download with them, wished I'd kept my stats now for comparison.

Anyway - day one of switchover to Sky Unlimited LLU, 4MB connection as expected - my stats are below(from D-Link router):

Connection Speed 4095 kbps 605 kbps
      Line Attenuation 30.0db 17.3db
      Noise Margin 16.4db 17.3db

Sky estimate a 13.5MB for this line - I'm not up on the attenuation/noise margin to be able to work that out, but the noise margin does seem a little high to me. I'm about 2km from the exchange.

      Any thoughts?

I would imagine 12+mb with those stats after DLM.

At this stage, the higher it is the better.

Any noise margin you have above 7dbs converts into sync speed. It is impossible to say how much each db is worth, it can be anything from 300kbs upwards. In your case you should end up with about 13Mb, depending on the condition of your line.

      Re: New on Sky Unlimited.....

      As of today:

Connection Speed 13024 kbps 945 kbps
      Line Attenuation 30.0db 17.6db
      Noise Margin 6.9db 14.2db

Speedtest.net gives me 9.01Mb down and 0.80 up - so we're getting there.

Is this with a wireless connection? You should get around 11.5Mb with ethernet. Remember you will loose 10-15% due to overheads, more if you are using wireless.

You may get a bit more on the upload, but as Simon says your downstream is at its limit.

That's the fastest I've ever had. Never got to 11MB.

I suspect I could get faster if I was off the main socket. Plus, I don't have a modern master socket. Think I have an old 'star system' or something.
