Then that causes a problem, how do I get a ethernet cable from the router to my PC. Since I might have 2 connections, I was thinking that I could use the BT connection for Sky Anytime+. The BT connection is almost directly installed a floor up from the master socket and TV, so I would need to get a UTP cable from the new connection up to where the BT connection is installed and the BT connection down to the TV.

So that is one of my questions answered, the only problem now is whether or not I should get a new isp on the other connection or wait for FTTC. So what are the chances that FTTC will be available on time, and are there any isps that offer a 6 months contract?

There are some ISP's with a rolling 1 month contract you'd have to google them. As for using a BT connection for anytime+ you cant, the only ISP that works with anytime+ is Sky.

Try removing the orange wire from the back of the Master phone socket. All the orange wire is for is a ringer. It picks up interference. take a look Here

      *Edit*

Just read page 2 and didnt realise someone had already posted about the bell wire but still may be worth a read.

daid85, please note that it is not always an orange wire, you should advise that any wire in terminal 3 is removed, if someone has not used the standard colours to wire up they could end up with no phone.

So are you saying after I pay 10 for HD and around 60 for everything else, I won't be able to get Anytime+, this is unacceptable.

As for the 1 months contracts, those shorter contracts are more expensive. But I wouldn't have a 12 months contract with Sky since I had them before.

The problem is that Anytime+ will use a lot of bandwidth and as Sky is the only unlimited broadband supplier then they are only going to allow it to use it's network for now at least, this could change once it is all up and running.

Anytime+ is a free service to Sky Unlimited subscribers so as such, you are still getting what you are paying for.

If I am going to get a new isp, how does Sky compare to isps like Be. I've been looking around and it appears that isps like Be are better for latencies because you can turn things like Interleaving off. But on the other hand Sky would only have a one month contract and is by far the cheapest.

Since I wrote this post yesterday, I have learnt that with a quick phone call you can get interleaving turned off. Is this true, and would it reduce my latency without decreasing the sync or throughput too much.

What about for BT, if after my training period my speed does increase to around 13mbit and I can turn interleaving off, there will be no need for a new isp.

Apart from Sky Anytime+, can someone confirm that this will not work with isps other then Sky.

BT can turn interleving off (we used to do it with Connect customers) - as to whether they'll do it I don't know (not been with BT for years)
