Is there a way I can keep some of the extensions and still reduce the noise to as if there were none, since I still need to connect a Sky STB to one of them. Also the line is connected to a extension, although connecting it to the main socket didn't do anything when I tried it a while ago.

It's possible by replacing the current master socket with a new NTE5 and fitting a faceplate filter such as ADSLNation's XTE-2005. You then run the router from the faceplate and the extensions can remain connected without affecting the line.

So would that make the line as clean as the other line, considering that there are at least 5 extensions, which does not have anything not even a phone. Is there any advantage, even 0.1db, in using the master socket with that new master socket.

Where can I get these and how much will it cost.

If you dont use the new master socket you wont get any improvement. It should make it about the same as your first line. Your looking at around 11 for the faceplate filter and 8 for the NTE5 linebox. As for where to get them eBay for the NTE5 and make sure you get one with BT's logo on it. ADSLNation or Run-It-Direct can supply the faceplate.

Why does it have to have the BT logo on it?

If you call BT out for a line fault and they see a box without there logo on they can get a bit annoyed about it.

Didn't BT offer free faceplates a while ago, and wouldn't just cutting the bell wire have the same affect?

They only give you a free faceplate & replacement master socket now if you get them out for a line fault and they decide it needs replacement.
Cutting the bell wire will improve things but even then it wont be as good as using a faceplate filter which *totally* isolates the extensions from the adsl signal preventing them from decreasing the noise margin.

No, with the filtered faceplate BB is isolated to the MASTER socket. the router should ideally be left at the master and connection made from router to devices (either wireless of Ethernet). Extensions create noise and in your case seem to be holding things back a fair amount
