Random disconnects but still connected to the internet.

I'll be using Msn, Ventrilo, Online games and all of a sudden it will disconnect me from that application and reconnect straight away, the router does not indicate i have lost connection.

Also as soon as it disconnects me i can still use internet explorer and the web page loads instantly.

This usually happens around every 30 minutes.

It only does it to my PC, when playing on a console i get no problems what so ever.

Can anyone help, be very much appreciated.

Re: Random disconnects but still connected to the internet.

      Ethernet

I think its changed but ive never seen my Network type as MER.
      -- Summary --
This issue has been resolved so I will summarise what happened here in order to make it easy to read.

      -- Problem --
The problem was the connection kept dropping briefly every hour or so causing disconnections with programs such as Skype and online games.

      -- Cause --
Sky must have recently changed their network type as part of an update, If your network type is listed as MER then it has been updated, however they must have gone back on the update as when you reset it, it will go back to PPPoA network type instead of MER.

      -- Solution --
In order to fix all of this, You need to get a pen and hold down the reset button for 50 Seconds whilst the router is powered on, Then release it. When the network is back up you should see the network type has returned to PPPoA, and the end of your problems.

If your wondering, The firmware version should be 2.6Sky too and this was done on a Black Sagem Router.
Do believe this is my problem so il give this a try, got no settings to worry about.

I now have a PPPoA network type, so i'll report in an hour of any disconnections.

Re: Random disconnects but still connected to the internet.

Sorry to bump this topic, but out of interest before when i had PPPoA (Before my router updated to MER, its now PPPOA) i had my max delay's reduced for gaming, is it possible that when i reset my router back to PPPoA its changed it?

For some reason connecting to games have been a bit slow and I haven't been able to host stable game of MW2 for example, where as before i was able to host fine.

I'll be able to provide router stats from master and test socket when i finish work in 2 hours.

I have to doubt that anything you do will change the settings at Sky's end, but just call Sky again and ask them to reduce your Delay. If it is already reduced they will tell you.

Ok, that's not good. Try a corded telephone directly into the test socket, with no other devices such as filters etc. connected. If there is still a whistle, then test with another handset at the test socket. Again, if the whistle is still present, dial 17070 and confirm whether you get through to 'BT test facility' or 'Zoe'.

Re: Random disconnects but still connected to the internet.

You are also getting about 1.5Mb more from your Test socket which means your internal wiring is causing interference. Fit and use a filtered faceplate on the master socket and you will get the full potential of your line.

If you are getting the whistling sound with the router plugged in it is probably overspill caused by a poor filter. Once again a filtered faceplate will fix this. If you are getting the noise with a phone plugged straight into the Test socket, then it needs further investigating.

Ok, well if you're definitely hearing a whistling sound on the landline, and you've tested with two handsets into the test socket, then this needs logged to whoever you pay line rental to. BT - 0800800151 for BT faults dept. 08442410515 for Sky. If you're on Sky's SVBN, then this escalated to CST who will then log it to the NOC (Network Operations Centre) to have a look at as it could be Sky's equipment at the exchange.
