      Slow Speeds

      Hi Guys,

I am a Sky broadband unlimited user and have had serious speed issues since the day it was installed. It is just about impossible to watch a video on iPlayer, youtube etc as the connection is so bad. Web browsing/email is just about possible, but forgot about downloading music via iTunes or Microsoft service packs!

I have the Sagem router which is connected directly to the master socket.

The router statistics report the following:

      Connection Speed
      Downsteam: 510 kbps
      UpStream: 480 kbps

      Line Attenuation
      Downstream: 64.5 db
      Upstream: 37.5 db

      Noise Margin:
      Downstream: 8.0 db
      Upstream: 11.0 db

A speed test on another website reported:

      Download: 0.36Mbps
      Upload: 0.38Mbps

Any assistance/advice you can offer would be much appreciated!

      Thank you in advance,

      Carl

      Re: Slow Speeds

You're on a long line which isn't helping things as speed will never be great but combine that with ADSL2+ and it's worse than it should be. If you can get Sky to switch you to GDMT you may double your speed but it'll never be fast

      Re: Slow Speeds

It's basically ADSL1 which is better suited to long lines as it handles line noise better than ADSL2+ - it would benefit you as it'd mean it should be able to achieve a better sync rate

      Re: Slow Speeds

Just spoken to Sky Broadband support and they are going to run a "line reconfiguration" in the next 48hrs which should boost my speed up/double it.

We will see, I'll report back here and let you know.

Thanks for the advice thus far.
