what is the problem help please

A few months ago a telecom engineer was up the telegraph pole outside our house and later that day I discovered that I couldn`t get on the internet [orange light flashing on router], so I telephoned sky and went through all the motions and still no luck,I changed all the filters and purchased a new modem cable but still couldn`t connect and also there was a lot of hissing and crackling when using the telephone if I disconnect the modem cable the line is clear, then one day I found out that if I took the phone receiver off the hook I could connect to the internet[solid green light on router] however whilst on the internet there was a high pitched increasing tone coming through the telephone, and as soon as you put the receiver down the orange flashing light came back on the router and disconnected the internet, sky have said there isn`t a problem on the line and won`t send an engineer round and just say it will cost me if its a problem in the house,I keep telling them that there nothing wrong with the phone or internet untill the BT engineer was up the pole doing some work for another house, but they wont listen.Has anybody got any ideas please.

Try the phone and router in the test socket and if the issues persist, phone them up and say your in the test socket have crackling on the phone line and cannot connect to the internet. They need to book out an engineer to come and fix it for you and you will not be charged if the problem is occuring in the test socket.

Locate your master socket and determine if it is the split front type, if it is unscrew the front to reveal the test socket. If it's not take the front off, disconnect the extension wiring from the back and then try the phone and router again in the master socket.

Hello Tenar, I changed all the filters and the cable, I pay all rental to sky and have been told that I can`t call BT myself but if sky can`t fix this fault then what can I do, as I said there wasn`t a problem before the BT engineer was doing a repair up the pole, my guess is he has caused this and I am unable to resolve it.

Roy you have to eliminate your internal wiring from the equation, the only way to do this is by using the test socket or disconnecting your extension wiring from the master socket. Until you confirm the fault is still there once your wiring is isolated it is pointless phoning sky to book an engineer as they probably wont do it for you!
