      Great Stats - Slow Broadband

Hi, hopefully someone can explain these stats below...

Had these since my sky broadband line went active over 2 weeks ago - sky have been doing stuff apparently including checking for line faults, resetting my profile and are now apparently resetting my SNR (which they said was "very unusual"...).

They say I can expect improvements on Sept 10th - another 5 days of them doing something without being clear that they a) know what the problem is or b) how to fix it..... what do you reckon?

Connection Speed 576 kbps (down) 288 kbps (up)
Line Attenuation 3 db (down) 2 db (up)
Noise Margin 29 db (down) 23 db (up)

I live in a new build about 75 meters from the telephone exchange....

Did the BT speed test and got these results:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 427 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500 Kbps
      Your DSL Connection Rate :576 Kbps (DOWN-STREAM), 288 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 500 Kbps

Results are the same LAN or Wireless and I don't have a test socket (but have removed bell wire etc from the main telephone socket, of which there is only one in the house).

      Please help!

Sky can't do anything directly about this, they can only pass it to BTO. You should call them and ask if the have escalated this to BT, if they haven't tell them to do so immediately.

I don't want to build your hopes but Sky are enabling more exchanges. There is a small chance that yours is one of them and is scheduled to change over on the 10th, which may be why you were given that date.

Can you confirm your exchange name? If it is Bloxham, it does not look like a likely candidate for upgrading.

It looks like your on an IPStream500 product (512k fixed)

Get sky to move you onto ADSLMax and you will easily get an 8mb sync

You realise that because your on Sky connect you'll get throttled down at peak times, as bucklez says though your on a 500k product/setting and will need to get sky to change that through bt for an increase.

Re: Great Stats - Slow Broadband

still waiting for a call back from Sky's CST department so will ask them about the product... meant to be 8mb so we shall see.

From where I sit feels like BT are punishing me for not using them and hence have limited my line! ...eitherway, if Sky can't get me more speed by the 10th I'll try BT (although could do without the extra shag and hassle of it all!).

All it takes is CST to log a fault to BT to switch you from Home/Office 500 to ADSL Max - once you can get through to CST it won't take long (24hrs normally)

Completely irrelevent, Steve. Perhaps once on the correct package but now there is just no point in posting what we already know will be a stupid set of slow results. Posting speeds when not even on the same product as anyone else isn't a fair comparison

There was a period a couple of years ago when this was happening to nearly every new Connect user. I was convinced BT were doing it on purpose to cause Sky problems as there was no reason for it.

You should get 8Mb quite easily. Bear in mind that this is not Sky's fault. They send an order to BT to to put one of their customers on Connect and some twit at BT puts it on Office 500, which Sky do not even use. It then takes days to get BT to get it fixed, meanwhile Sky get the blame. Don't get me wrong, Sky do make mistakes more often than they should, but in this case, they are blameless.
