Where do you download firmware updates from

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but a search I done found nothing of significance.

I was wondering. When new firmware updates are available for Sky routers. Where do you download these from. I know it isnt possible to go on to the router manufacturers site and download the firmware for the equivalent model, has Sky routers have Sky's own firmware on them.

So I was wondering where do you obtain firmware updates from Sky routers from?
My Sky router is a D-Link DSL-2640S, which is going to be too new at present to have any firmware updates.

      Thanks in advance

You don't download them, Sky send them to the router automatically when Sky release them.

      Thanks very much for that

I was curious to how the Sky routers were updated.

I wonder though, if there would be a way (for people who wanted to that is) to not have the firmware automatically updated. For example. A newer firmware update might NOT have a feature on it that the older firmware does.

Nope, as soon as your router is seen online and the firmware is being pushed out your router will take the firmware. Unless you use your own router or flash the one you have to original firmware you have no way of stopping it.

      Erm interesting.

Maybe at some point in time (when the D-Link has been cracked) I would use a router of my own choice.

Thanks for the help its appreciated

That's unlikely, new firmware usually adds new features and stability. In saying that a recent update for the Sagem routers was so full of bugs it was withdrawn after a few days. Sagem users are still waiting on the update.

The V1 router runs a provisioning job, which uses wget to check for/download new firmware about once a month - passing the router's current firmware version and also it's MAC address so they can monitor which router's have updated.

The command's format is as follows (I've asterisked out my MAC and added a couple of carriage returns ).

      PHP Code:
      wget http://dg834gt.skyfirmware.com/?mac=************\&firmwareVersion=1.03.87
      &model=dg834gt&product=skydsl -/tmp/*********
      --timeout 30  --tries 3

Thanks for that. But I have the D-Link so it wouldn't work.
