      Slow Speed?

Hey all so I'm moving into a house for uni with three of my friends. We chose sky broadband because it fits are budget and I already have it at home.

Basically the house where we will be living already has sky broadband installed, it will be disconnected and put under are name. So I logged into the router while I was there today dropping off some of my stuff and it's running at 3046kb's now the house it's self is under a mile or less away from the exchange and it's in a cable broadband area.

I ran checks on the number/postcode and most ISP test's predict 5-7mb. I did check the cabling and it's seems a little long but I did not have a lot of time to fully check it over.

So I'm just double checking with you guys that it is probably a line attenuation problem, I'm at home now so I can't so any testing work on the equipment/line.

What you guys think, bad internal wiring?

You will not know for sure until you get into the house and check the connection using the Test socket. When you do that, post your stats from where the router is sited now and from the test socket.

      Re: Slow Speed?

A lot of properties let out to students have bodged wiring put in by people that aren't trained to install land lines, you may find bell wires in place, long extensions, bad connections on sockets etc. Best thing is run a test socket stat check and then see if anything changes once the face plate is plugged back in.
