Exchange upgraded, what do I do?

      Hey,

A bit of help if I may.

We have always put up with a slow max of 1.5mb connection due to the area. As of today the Lofthouse exchange has been gone live for ADSL2+. We are still getting around 1 meg download speeds.

We are on the Sky unlimited package and are around 2.8km from the exchange, not line length obviously.

What do I do to go forward and hopefully get a reasonable connection? We have the black V2 router.

      Thanks for any help!

If you're on Unlimited your exchange is already ADSL2+ enabled...post your current connection stats and we'll be able to comment further

Re: Exchange upgraded, what do I do?

You will have to phone Sky tell them your exchange has been upgraded and you would like to be moved to LLU as soon as possible. They will probablt tell you it has not been upgraded yet as Sky staff are about the last to find out. Don't be surprised if it takes 1 to 6 weeks to complete the transfer as it depends on how many are to be shifted and when BTO are available to do it..

Sorry, I thought you were on Connect, ignore what I said.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1532 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 57 db 35 db
Noise Margin 6 db 10 db

These are the stats. Thankyou both for the stupidly quick response!! I guess the best thing is to just wait then! Or do you think I should get in first and ring up. I have recently built myself a HTPC and the wait times for 1080p Youtube vids is horrendous!

Hi you are on Sky Broadband Unlimited is that right. Sky / Easynet: Enabled as of 04/03/2007 Are you talking about Bt ADSL2+. Were you Due to be enabled today.
As you were informed you are already ADSL2+ enabled Through Sky`s own equipment. If you explain more you would get a more informed reply.

Re: Exchange upgraded, what do I do?

I don't really know much about any of this as you are probably aware. Moved house over here 2 years ago signed up to Sky on the package I am on now. Says Sky unlimited in My Sky, max speed set seems to be 1.5meg which I am getting. My mate works for BT and pointed out the new "box" installed at the end of my street enabling high speed internet. Internet suggests it went live today, I assume ADSL2+. I am just wanting a lot better for my new rig! I know my way around a computer/building but I am lost with all the broadband/router stuff!

If you are on Sky Unlimited then you are already on LLU

Your exchange has probably been enabled by BT and so would not affect your line etc as Sky did the same 3 years ago or so, unless it is the new fibre thingy that BT are rolling out.

Re: Exchange upgraded, what do I do?

I'm guessing its the new fibre thing. My problem is on broadband speed checkers I'm only getting 1mb download speeds. The My Sky says unlimited and costs around 12.50 a month minus 5 for having their line rental I believe.

Re: Exchange upgraded, what do I do?

BT has nothing to do with Sky. If it is the new FTTC system you will have to leave Sky and get another ISP to take advantage of it. Google BT Infinity.

That being said, your speed is a bit low, even with your high attenuation, Plug into your Test socket using only the filter and cable supplied by Sky and post the stats from there.

Re: Exchange upgraded, what do I do?

Thankyou. Why did they sign me up to Unlimited if the best I can achieve is 1.5meg. Money I'm guessing as the free service would suffice. I guess I should start thinking about leaving them on the internet side then!
