Have you removed the ring wire? Your noise margin says you are not going to get much more.

Well it won't be me doing that, me dad is fitting a proper nea5 i think it's called (something like that), what does the ring wire look like, google images didn't help.

I've also seen people with bigger noise margins with faster speeds, shouldn't it be the other way around or am i getting mixed up and lower is worse?

The ring wire is the one connected to terminal 3 on the back of the faceplate on the Master socket. It is usually, but not always, orange.

The higher the noise margin the better. The default which Sky use is 6.9dbs. Each 1 db you are above that can represent about 300+kb in speed increase. How much exactly depends on your line.

So when the new phone socket is connected, don't connect the orange wire? Sorry for stupid questions just want to get it right.

It depends on the faceplate being fitted. Newer good quality faceplates have a bell wire choke built in, which means the wire can be connected without any problem. If you are in doubt, just leave it off. The best solution is to buy fit and use a filtered faceplate which isolates all the internal wiring from the ADSL signal. Like this - XTE-2005 Filtered Master Faceplate - ADSL Nation - the wire can then be fitted without effecting the broadband.

your attenuation is almost identical to mine and I get 11 meg, so there probably isn't much more to be had.

Although 10 meg is still very respectable, it's still over twice the national average.

I guess, annoying though since i would like at least 15mb i think that's respectable considering i signed up for 20mb.

You can't pick your speed sadly. Your line picks it for you

You signed up for UP TO 20Mb, it is always pointed out that the speed you will get depends on the length and condition of your line. You should have been given an estimate of what speed you would receive, which is also usually shown in your broadband details on the MySky page. What does it say there? You should see something like this
When you purchased Sky Broadband, we estimated that the maximum download speed for your line was 7.0Mb.
My own speed is nearly 10Mb, usually they underestimate.
