A MAC code is what you give to your new ISP to allow them to take over the service.

Consider the problem with Sky Connect like this:-

Sky Connect is like a lunch buffet, Sky have bought 1000 sandwiches, during the day, they have enough for the amount of customers but then at peak hours, the place gets full with 10,000 customers, because they only have 1000 sandwiches everybody only gets a bite instead of a meal.

Now who's fault is it??? BT's for only putting out the 1000 sandwiches that Sky paid for or Sky's for not buying more to serve all their customers???

Right........ He has now said I can ring them and pretend to be him (he gave me the password and stuff) and try to get them to cancel the contract.

What exactly do I need to say?

I wanna try and get this done tonight hopefully.

      Re: What is this rubbish?

Don't say anything about cancelling the contract, just call up and tell them you want your MAC. If he/she asks if you want to cancel say 'not at the moment thank you, I just want my MAC.

If they cancel you cannot get a MAC and will be left in limbo with 10 to 14 days downtime on your broadband,

Tell your dad to look here -
Broadband and phone for just 6.99 with TalkTalk

The cheapest TV package from 1st Sept is 19.

      Re: What is this rubbish?

So I just call them up and ask for the MAC code? And then I use that MAC code to sign up for TalkTalk?

That's it. When your Code is accepted by another ISP, then is the time to give Sky notice. It is not unknown for them to give out a duff code so don't cancel until you get confirmation that it is accepted.

Fillin the boxes here and it will tell you what speed you can get.

      Re: What is this rubbish?

What if I sign up for TalkTalk and then try to cancel my contract with Sky but they refuse or try to charge me?

EDIT: And having my MAC code means nothing unless I actually use it (give it to another ISP) right?

      Re: What is this rubbish?

Just refer them to the T & Cs and tell them you are being throttled illegally.

The MAC means nothing till you use it. It is valid for 30 days.
